Nathan Nahikian, Owner
In 1999, I graduated from Brevard College, with a bachelors degree in Outdoor Education, and have since pursued work and travel in the outdoors and on the water.  While putting myself through school running outdoor trips for summer camps (and painting a few houses) I worked for several years as a  lead kayak instructor, guide, and program manager at the Nantahala Outdoor Center.

Most recently, I worked here in DC as the head kayak instructor and manager for Liquid Adventures Kayak School, working to guide it and shape it for close to 6 years with its owner/director, Tom McEwan. As an ACA Certified Kayak Instructor Trainer and canoe and rescue instructor I have a rich background to draw upon, which  is quite diverse when combined with a long work history in  paddlesports and many years on the water.

I have been involved with Team River Runner since 2005, and currently manage weekly pool sessions at the Washington VA Hospital Center for patients in the poly‐trauma center.  In addition to running my own programs and trips at Potomac River Outfitters, I do contract work for the local kayak schools, consult and teach for college outing programs, and work for Landmark Learning as time allows. Landmark Learning is a company that provides training and certification for other outdoor leaders and programs.

I love to share river experiences of all sorts with people. I feel my strength as an instructor is my highly adaptable teaching style and awareness of different learning styles. Having experience in a variety of paddling disciplines from slalom to creeking, to sea kayaking to canoeing and rafting, further strengthens that adaptability.  It will be a rewarding challenge to tackle this new task of trying to run a small business.  More online.

I am married to a great woman, Elizabeth (also fun to paddle with), we live in Alexandria VA and have a very cute dog named Henry.

Fun Facts – About me, I don’t like water in my nose,  but love Star Wars. I must wear blaze orange when paddling during hunting season, do not like wearing shoes and paddled over 2000 miles in a sea kayak during a trip in college.

Jason Aytes
I met Jason while working at NOC. He also taught at New River Academy/Huge experiences. He is a very versatile instructor, gifted creek boater and can get your surfing and playboating needs taken care of. However, don’t go for a run with him, he embraces pain and is rather fast.  He is newly married to wonderful woman, Kate Allen, who we hope to have on the river as well.  Join them for a weekend trip later this summer.

Blaine Honea
Blaine draws on a great background having run river trips and courses for Outward Bound for many years.  He is currently a husband and new father and a gifted outdoorsman.  He has a laid back style of teaching and loves getting people to discover their adventure. You can catch him on summer days reading a book on the rocks of Great Falls waving at the helicopter.

The Wife
She is the boss of us when the schnoodle is not bossing us both. My wife Liz is a great paddler and patient instructor. She joins us on trips when she can to keep me in line and lend support to students. She was a trip leader at Davidson Outdoors, raft guided for NOC, and has rowed the Grand Canyon. When not kayaking, Liz enjoys working out and training for or running marathons. Check out her Boston time, pretty awesome.

The Schnoodle in Chief
Basically the quality control expert and boss of his humans. He is an avid kayak passenger, swimmer, barker and chaser of geese. He loves to get muddy, sit on the computer, and make his presence known.  Henry rocks a custom IR wetsuit and favors the Astral Birdog DFD.
